This small garden in Ashford was in poor condition with a muddy lawn covering most of the garden and a small, rotted fence along the perimeter. The property was overlooked by neighbours on both sides and a high-rise building at the back. Our clients wanted to make the space more usable, much more private, and easy to maintain.
To combat the lack of privacy, contemporary slatted fences were installed on all sides. Pleached trees at the back of the garden are used to block out the high-rise building while still allowing room for planting underneath. A dining area at the back of the garden catches the late afternoon and evening sun, while a seating area at the front gets morning and early afternoon sun.
To ensure the area was low maintenance, the clients were happy to not have a lawn included. Slow-growing shrubs were planted alongside easy-maintenance perennials and grasses. A multi-stem tree on each side of the pathway provides height and interest, and also increased privacy from the neighbours.
